CHENEY, WA - Seattle U women's tennis clinched the victory in a close match against Eastern Washington with an overall score of 4-3 this Saturday, February 11. The victory was the result of strong singles performances from the Redhawks, bringing their record to 3-3 on the season.
Elena Kraleva and Jade Quintana paired up in doubles play, dropping the match to Isabella Foshee and Scout Mathews (3-6). Lamija Avdic and Lola Tavcar then stepped up to keep the doubles point alive for the Redhawks, defeating Kenzington Mann and Leandra Nizetic (6-4). Liliya Dimova and Yuna Kadowaki paired up to take on Jennifer Kida and Anait Arutiunian and dropped the match (3-6), earning the Eagles the doubles point.
The Redhawks came back strong in singles play, beginning with freshman Lamija Avdic's win over Anait Arutiunian (6-3, 6-1) that earned the Redhawks their first point in the match. Freshman Anastasia Nikolova also dominated in her match against Isabella Foshee (6-3, 7-5), giving the Redhawks a 2-1 lead. Junior Elena Kraleva then came through with a win after losing her first set with a score of 1-6, and coming back win her next two sets with duplicate scores of 6-1. Jade Quintana then fell in her match against Leandra Nizetic (0-6, 1-6). Liliya Dimova was victorious in a competitive match against Scout Mathews (6-2, 5-7, 7-5), sealing the win for the Redhawks by bringing the score of 4-2. Yuna Kadowaki also had a competitive match against Kelly Arends, but ultimately dropped the match (4-6, 78-6, 6-10), bringing the overall score to 4-3.
The Redhawks will hope to bring their positive momentum into their match against Gonzaga on Sunday, February 11.
