ORLANDO, Fla – Seattle U softball (2-2) continued opening action on the 2024 season on Saturday, defeating Georgia State, 5-1, after falling to Howard, 0-10, in the first game of the day. Both contests were a part of the Black & Gold Classic, hosted by UCF, at UCF Softball Complex in Orlando, Florida.
GEORGIA STATE CONTEST
The Redhawks came out strong in the second contest of the day, putting up a four spot in the second inning. After Mikee Morris singled to shortstop, Karen Spadafora walked in the next at bat to put two runners on.
The two advanced on a wild pitch before Nicola Simpson scored Morris on sacrifice fly to deep right field. Lily Garcia smacked a hard hit ball that forced an error by the third baseman to score another. The highlight of the inning was a two run, homerun by Sydney Frankenberger in the very next at bat.
Avari Morris was dealing in her collegiate debut, allowing just one earned run on one hit in a complete game victory. After sending down the first six batters, Morris worked out of jams in the third and fourth inning to keep the Panthers off the board.
Katie Walling added an insurance run in the seventh, putting a ball into center field for a single to score Frankenberger from second base.
GEORGIA STATE SCORING
- Second Inning: Nicola Simpson hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field, scoring the opening run. Lily Garcia reached on a fielding error by third, adding a run. Sydney Frankenberger homered to right center for two RBIs.
- Sixth Inning: GSU scored one run on a double.
- Seventh Inning: Katie Walling singled to center field to score the fifth run of the game for SU.
The Redhawks did their best to get the offense going in the morning contest, with Mikee Morris marking her first career triple with two outs in the second to put a runner in scoring position.

- Second Inning: Howard scored two runs on a single.
- Fourth Inning: Howard scored one run on a single.
- Fifth Inning: Howard scored five runs on five hits.
