SEATTLE – Seattle University baseball hosted the 15th edition of Meet the Redhawks on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Campion Ballroom on campus. The event featured a silent and live auction with proceeds going to the program, dinner, guest speakers and an introduction of the 2024 edition of the Redhawk team.
"I am so thankful that we can create such an incredible night for our organization and thank you to all those who participated and helped put on a magical evening," said Head Coach Donny Harrel. "Our families, alums, friends of the program and administration do such an incredible job supporting our program. This was a fantastic event to get our guys ready for the season."
During the evening's festivities, Seattle University Athletics Hall of Famer Mike GIbson, '79, who has also served as the baseball board president for 12 years, was presented with the Most Valuable Person (MVP) Award for his dedication and support of the baseball program.
This year's auction items were highlighted by trips to multiple destinations around the United States, the chance to join the team on a trip to University of Oregon during the season, and many more silent auction items. A total of $137,000 was raised this year, marking one of the highest totals in the events history.
Meet the Redhawks' inaugural event was 15 years ago in 2008 when Harrel was named head coach and was tasked with bringing the sport back to Seattle U. The mission of Meet the Redhawks is to raise support for the program as they continue to compete at the highest level of collegiate baseball.
The Redhawks will take the field in just over a week, as they travel to UC Davis for a three-game series starting on Friday, Feb. 16, in Davis, Calif. The team will host its home opener on March 1, as Saint Mary's is in town for a four-game set.
