NACOGDOCHES, Texas – For the fourth time this season Seattle U men's basketball playing into extra time, but the Redhawks could not even their OT record this season with an 89-84 defeat at Stephen F. Austin Thursday night.

The Western Athletic Conference match-up capped a long three-game, two trip road stretch against opponents from Texas. The Redhawks return home with an 10-8 overall record, 3-4 WAC mark. SFA improves to 12-6 overall, 5-2 in the WAC.

Four Redhawks scored in double figures, paced by Alex Schumacher's 24 points. Entering the game, Schumacher needed 12 points to reach 1,500 for his career. His and-1 layup at the 16:32 mark of the second half gave him exactly 1,500 and he finished the night at 1,512.

Brandton Chatfield tallied a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds while John Christofilis added 16 points, including four threes. Kobe Williamson had 13 points before fouling out in the extra frame.

SFA was paced by Jalil Beaubrun and Nana Antwi-Boasiako who collected 16 points apiece. Four additional Lumberjacks reached double figures.

Seattle U led by as many as six early in the first half, but the frame was a tight battle throughout. A Schumacher stepback three with seconds remaining in the frame made it a two-point ballgame at the break, 37-35, Lumberjacks.

After trailing by as many as eight early in the second half, Seattle U battled back. SFA led 76-73 with 48 seconds remaining in regulation, but Chatfield responded on the other end, tying the score by converting a dunk through the foul. He would hit the and-1 free throw to tie the score at 76.

Williamson had a chance win the game for the Redhawks at the buzzer, but a driving layup fell just short.

In the extra frame, Seattle U went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, but managed just 2-of-9 field goals. SFA hit 3-of-6 from the field and sank 7-of-9 from the charity stripe.

The Lumberjacks held a 47-34 advantage on the boards, including 15 offensive rebounds for 19 points.

The Redhawks return home for their next two, beginning Saturday, Jan. 20 when they host league-leader Grand Canyon. Tip off from the Redhawk Center is 7 p.m.
