FOLLOW THE REDHAWKS

QUICK HITS

  • Seattle U seeks its first road win of the season at UTEP, going 0-3 in its first three tries this year.
  • Seattle U earned a 79-73 overtime win over Louisiana Tech on Dec. 20, heading into a 10-day holiday break from games with a 7-5 overall record.
  • The overtime affair was the second straight game to go into an extra period, following a double overtime loss to Washington on Dec. 17. The Redhawks are now 2-1 in OT under Head Coach Chris Victor.
  • The win over the Bulldogs was Victor's 50th at the helm of the Redhawk program.
  • LaTech was ranked No. 66 in the NCAA's NET rankings at the time of the game, marking the Redhawks' highest NET win of the season.
  • Cameron Tyson led all scorers with 33 points, his season high and just two shy of his career high in points. The 33-point effort was the first 30+ points game for a Redhawk since Jan. 21, 2023 when Riley Grigsby poured in 33 against Southern Utah.
  • Tyson's third three against LaTech was his 240th as a Redhawk, eclipsing the SU all-time record of 239, held by Aaron Waite (1988-92), who was in attendance at the game.
  • Joining Tyson in double figures against LaTech were Alex Schumacher and Kobe Williamson with 11 points each.
  • In his second game back after missing nine straight due to a hand injury, John Christofilis finished with seven points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 25 minutes off the bench.

TYSON NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Following a record-setting performance in the Redhawks' final game before the holiday break, Cameron Tyson was named TicketSmarter WAC Player of the Week for the game week ending on Sunday, Dec. 24. This marks Tyson's first such honor this season and the third of his career. Tyson poured in a season-high 33 points and added eight rebounds to lead Seattle U to its highest NET-ranked win of the season, a 79-73 overtime victory over Louisiana Tech on Dec. 20 in Seattle. Along the way, Tyson made personal history as his third three pointer of the night eclipsed Seattle U's previous career record of 239, held by Aaron Waite (1988-92), who was in attendance to witness the moment firsthand. Tyson finished the night with four three pointers (241 for his two-plus year career as a Redhawk). He also went a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line and scored the Redhawks final points of each period.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS UTEP

  • The Redhawks and Miners have 11 all-time meetings with UTEP holding a slim 6-5 edge in the series.
  • The teams have not met since a pair of games in the mid 1990's, both of which the Miners won.
  • Seattle U's last win was an 86-74 final on Jan. 27, 1969.
  • Seattle U holds a note in the Miners' historic "Glory Road" 1965-66 NCAA Championship season. The Miners, playing with five black starters, beat Kentucky for the championship, finishing the year with a 28-1 overall record. The lone blemish on the Miners' schedule was a 74-72 Seattle U win on March 5, 1966.

RECORD BREAKERS

  • Cameron Tyson drained four threes on Dec. 20 versus Louisiana Tech to bring his Seattle U career total to 241. His third three of the night pushed him past former record-holder Aaron Waite (1988-92).
  • Kobe Williams tallied the 110th block of his career against Northwest on Dec. 9, moving him past previous Seattle U record-holder Aaron Menzies (2015-18) to become the outright record holder.
  • Brandton Chatfield is working his way up the Seattle U career blocks top-10 list as well, checking in at No. 8 with 76.

MILESTONE MARCH
A trio of Redhawks are racking up stats and closing in on significant milestone markers.

  • Cameron Tyson checks in with 1,775 career points, 225 from 2,000 for his career. With 19 regular season games remaining, Tyson would need to average just under 12 ppg to achieve the feat.
  • Tyson is also 224 points away from 1,500 points scored at Seattle U. The last player to do so was Riley Grigsby (2019-23) who finished with 1,501.
  • Tyson could crack the Seattle U top-10 list in scoring. He is 304 points away from No. 10 Jawann Oldham (1976-80, 1530).
  • Tyson also checks in with 427 career rebounds, needing 73 more to hit 500.
  • Alex Schumacher has scored 1,421 career points, needing 79 more to hit 1,500 for his collegiate career.
  • Schumacher also check in with 445 career rebounds, needing 55 more to hit 500.
  • Kobe Williamson has 460 career rebounds, needing 40 more to hit 500.

ATOP THE WAC
In games played through Dec. 28, the Redhawks lead the WAC in two team statistical categories and 8 individual categories.

FREE THROW STREAK
Victor Rajkovic is a perfect 15-15 from the free-throw line to start the 2023-24 season. The streak is the longest for a Seattle U player since Cameron Tyson hit 23 consecutive free throws from Jan. 12, 2023 versus NM State through Feb. 1, 2023 versus Abilene Christian.
