SEATTLE – Despite a game-high 24 points from Alex Schumacher and 14 from Cameron Tyson, Seattle U men's basketball never found its offensive rhythm Wednesday night, dropping a 62-60 decision to Northern Arizona at Climate Pledge Arena.
The Redhawks (2-1) rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to tie the game twice in the final minutes, including 60-60 on a second-chance layup from Schumacher with 14 seconds to play.
But Oakland Fort answered for the Lumberjacks (1-2), knocking down a jumper on the ensuing possession to take the lead back.
Seattle U had a chance to tie or win it at the buzzer, but Tyson's straightaway three attempt rimmed out.
Schumacher scored over half his points at the free-throw line, knocking down 14-of-15 attempts. He added six rebounds and four assists to his line. Kobe Williamson had a game-high 10 rebounds.
NAU was paced by Trenton McLaughlin's 19 points. Rockwell Reynolds added 13 and Carson Basham had 10.
Seattle U shot just 35 percent from the field, including 3-of-16 from three. Turnovers also continue to plague the Redhawks as they committed 18 to NAU's 15.
The first road trip of the season is on tap as Seattle U travels across the country to face VCU on Saturday, Nov. 18. Tip-off from Richmond, Va., is 2 p.m. ET, 11 a.m. PT.
