SEATTLE - Seattle U softball has announced the signing of four talented student athletes. Isabella Ely, Abigail Fales, Camryn Johnson and Maya Mesa will all join the Redhawks as freshman for the 2025 season.
"In every class, you are looking to bring in great pitching, power and speed," said Head Coach Geoff Hirai. "This class has all three of those elements and we can't wait to see them in the Black and Red next year."
Isabella Ely is a four year varsity starter from Juanita High School in Kirkland, Washington. The infielder posted a stellar 2023 season, claiming First Team All-Kingco and Juanita's Defensive MVP honors in route to a Kingco Championship that saw them ranked seventh in the state of Washington. Ely played club for Team Seattle (2021) and Washington Ladyjawks (2022-24), starting the last three years at shortstop and finishing as a finalist for the PGF Futures game.
"Bella is a versatile infielder and brings huge power at the plate," said Hirai. "She's a local talent that brings huge upside and we look forward to working with her next year."
Abigail Fales comes to Seattle U from Branham High School in San Jose, California, where she earned four varsity letters in softball and two in field hockey. The outfielder/utility player served as the team captain and earned First Team All-League honors in 2023 in route to Branham qualifying for its third straight CIF Central Coast Section (CCS). Fales was a key member of the Bruins squad that went on the win the 2021 Mount Hamilton Division I Championship. The incoming freshman played club for the Lady Sharks (2018), Cal Nuggets (2019) and Lady Magic Boykin (2020-24), with her squad ranking as the 12th best team in PGF Premier Division during 2022 and posting a top-25 finish in the U18s PGF Premier Division in 2023. Her sister, Emma, also currently plays collegiate softball at George Washington University. Fales plans to major in Criminology with an concentration in Forensic Science.
"Abbie is a versatile athlete that can play both the infield and outfield," said Hirai. "She brings solid power to the plate and we look forward to seeing what she can do here."
Camryn Johnson will join Seattle U after earning four varsity letters at Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, California, and leading her squad to a runners-up finish at the 2022 CIF DI Championships. The outfielder has been honing her craft throughout club softball, playing for SoCal Athletics (2016-18), Firecrackers Weil (2018-20), Widlcats Holcomb/Knight (2020-22) and SoCal Athletics Richardson (2022-present). Johnson plans to major in Elementary Education in hopes of pursing a career in elementary school teaching.
"Camryn possesses a great competitive fire that we love to see," said Hirai. "She is a triple threat at the plate with a big arm in the outfield."
Maya Mesa hails from Glacier Peak High School in Snohomish, Washington, earning three varsity letters. The two-way player was a important member of a 2023 Grizzlies squad, earning All-4A Wesco and All-Area Wesco Second Team honors in route to a third place district finish and second place state finish. Glacier Peak's 2024 team captain and 2022 most improved player, played club for Snohomish Shock Shamrock (2015-19), FURY Fastpitch Cussac (2020-22), WA Acers Anderton (2022-24).
"Maya is a strong two-way player that will bring a large impact in both the circle and the batter's box," said Hirai. "She is a great local talent that will bring an impact to our team right away."
