ABILENE, TX - Seattle U women's soccer captured their third straight conference victory, taking down Abilene Christian, 2-1, Thursday night in Texas.
"We were incredibly proud of the team today," said head coach Julie Woodward. Our coaching staff really enjoys working with this group.
Kaylee Coatney got the scoring started with a goal of the season nomination in the 31st. After intercepting a Wildcat pass near midfield, Coatney noticed the Abilene keeper was off her line and chipped it from nearly 50-yards out, perfectly placing it in the back of the net. It was the first of the season for the senior midfielder.
After taking a 1-0 lead into the break, Seattle U would concede the equalizer in the 57th. It would take the Redhawks just under five minutes to respond.
After drawing a foul in the box, Seattle U was awarded a penalty in the 61st. Kait Raffensperger would step to the spot and send the ball to the left of the keeper for the game winner.
"They have been so resilient all year long," Woodward added. "We love that they came out of a close game with a win and fought so incredibly hard after ACU tied it up to get the win. Great pressure goals from Coatney and Kait. Jourdyn, Piburn, Kait, Imani, Kacey and Kate have been tremendous defensively for us."
Match Timeline:
Seattle U will continue their road trip with a matchup with Tarleton on Sunday, Oct. 8, in Stephenville. Kickoff between the Redhawks and Texans is scheduled for 10am PT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+
