SEATTLE - Seattle U women's soccer wrapped up their 2023 regular season with a dominant win over Utah Tech, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Championship Field. It was senior day, but it was sophomore Caroline Penner who stole the show with her first career hat trick.

"What a great way to end the regular season on our home-field celebrating the seniors," said head coach Julie Woodward. "Penner obviously had a special game for us and I thought Marla really helped to change the energy and scored a beautiful goal."

Penner started her big day in the 18' when she scored at the top of the box off the pass from Hallie Bergford. She would secure the first half brace just seven minutes later, this time bringing down the cross from Kailee Wilson and sending the ball inside the far post. The hat trick would be completed 15 minutes into the second half as Penner and Marla Gaudlitz connected to seal the game.

Not only did Gaudlitz set up one of Penner's goals, but she also scored her first goal in a Redhawk uniform in the 61'. It was the eighth multi goal performance from the Redhawks this season, all of which resulted in wins.

The unsung hero of the day was once again the SU defense, who finished up the regular season with their ninth shutout and their sixth in the last seven matches. They held Utah Tech to just nine shots with only one on frame, which was saved by Lexi Davis

"Once again, we get another shutout and great performance from our back line," Woodward added "It was so great to see every single player play today. Kacey LaBoda has just been dialed in and playing so well in our backline and Kailee Wilson is so versatile you can put her anywhere, and she performs. I like how we are headed into the conference tournaments wrapping up the weekend with two wins and two shutouts."

Match Timeline:  With the victory the Redhawks end the regular season at a mark of 8-8-2 and a conference record of 6-2-1. That record will lock up the 3rd seed in the 2023 Western Athletic Conference tournament, which will kick off in a week down in Riverside, Calif.
