SEATTLE, WA - Junior right-handed pitcher Nestor German was selected in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. The Seattle native was taken with the 331st pick overall and is the first Redhawk selected in the draft since Jake Prizina back in 2019.

"I am so happy for Nestor, but even more proud of his accomplishment of reaching his goal of becoming a professional baseball player," said head coach Donny Harrel. "The last two years he has won our Jake Taylor award, which is voted on by his peers, as the hardest working Redhawk and all that work has paid off. Baltimore is getting a really good pitcher, but an even better human being"

In his three seasons with the Redhawk program, German solidified himself as a dominant starter. He ranks 6th all-time in program history in wins (12), while also ranking top-10 in starts, complete games, and strikeouts. This season, in a game vs Utah Valley, German tied Tarik Skubal for the single-game record in strikeouts with 12. He was named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week twice, was a two-time conference All-Academic selection and was named to the WAC All-Tournament Team in 2021.

"It's a blessing to be drafted by the Baltimore Orioles organization," said German. "A lot of of work and sacrifices have been made to be able to have this opportunity. I was very lucky to surround myself with wonderful people that helped me get to this point. I'm excited to get to work and enjoy this new journey in life."

German is now the 19th player in program history to be selected in the MLB Draft, and the 13th since the 2015 season. He will join Will Dennis (2015), Nick Meservey (2018), and Jake Prizina (2019) as Redhawks to be drafted by the Baltimore Orioles organization.

"Thank you to Donny for giving me an opportunity to play division I baseball," said German. "Carter Capps for guiding me in the right direction, and Millard (Dawson) and Joey (Wong) for their support. They are all great people, and they do a great job to make the program better. Thank you to Claire Sporer as well."
