Kukula, Rahon Named Academic All-District

DENVER, Colo. - Blake Kukula and Jack Rahon of Seattle University men's golf have been named on the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large Team. 

The Redhawks wrapped up a historic season in 2022-23, setting new program records in scoring average (288.50), par or better rounds (11), made birdies (486), par three scoring (3.1813), par four scoring (4.1576) and par five scoring (4.7753). As a team, they set the program record for lowest overall round and versus par at the Nick Watney Invitational with a score of 17-under 267. They also set a record for lowest 54-hole total at 838 but that would later be broken again at the UC San Diego Invitational by four strokes. SU also set a program record for lowest 36-hole total at the UC San Diego Invitational with a score of 557.

Kukula was a consistent member of the team score this season, averaging 74.19 over 26 rounds in nine tournaments. The native of Ocean Park, Washington, tied the program's seventh best single round performance at the Nick Watney Invitational back in September, shooting a final round of five-under 66 as part of a record setting team score. The Junior is working towards a degree in Kinesiology. 

Rahon ranks as one of the all-time best at Seattle U, holding the second best career scoring average (73.14), made birdies (390) and third most par or better rounds (47) and finish percentage (63.8%). The Orange, California, native recorded the most par or better rounds (18) and set the second best single-season scoring average (72.31) and third most made birdies (111). The graduate student earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting and is currently in pursuit of a Master's degree in Accounting. 

The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

All Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot and will be announced on June 21. Seattle U was one of three Western Athletic Conference schools to have an athlete named to the team.
