ARLINGTON, Texas – Stefanie Madrigal of Seattle U softball has been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, April 30.
The San Jose, California, native opened the week with a strong start against the #10 Huskies, throwing three innings with just one run allowed and four hits. Madrigal grabbed her WAC-leading 14th win of the season in the series opener against Utah Valley on Friday, pitching a complete game (eight innings) with just three runs allowed and three strikeouts. The senior was crucial in the Redhawks picking up this victory in extra innings, holding the Wolverines scoreless until the sixth inning. Madrigal also made an appearance in the series finale, sending the Wolverines down in order in the seventh to claim the series sweep.
This marks the second time this season she has won a WAC Pitcher of the Week and fifth time she has won the award in her career.
The Redhawks are rolling off a series sweep of Utah Valley this past weekend, moving them to a record of 11-10 in WAC play to put them in fifth place.
Seattle U will look to seal a berth to the 2023 WAC Tournament this weekend, taking on California Baptist in a three-game series in Riverside, California, starting on Friday at 2 p.m.
