SEATTLE, WA - Seattle U baseball fell in a close one with Tarleton, 1-2, Friday afternoon at Bannerwood Park. The two sides combined for 13 hits but only three runs as the Texans escaped with the series opener.

"Great pitcher's duel on Friday night," head coach Donny Harrel said. "Both starters did a great job and Smith gave us an opportunity by holding the score at 2-1."

Despite the loss, Peter Chronowski had a quality start on the mound. The lefty went seven innings while only giving up two earned runs while also striking out six. Blake Smith would come in to start the top of thew 8th and didn't allow a single run and struck out two Texans.

The Redhawks lone run came on a solo home run off the bat of Trevor Antonson in the 6th, which tied the ball game up at one at the time. After Tarleton took the lead once again on a home run of their own in the 7th, the Redhawks looked like they would at least force extras in the 9th.

Hudson Shupe started the rally with a 1-out single up the middle, before he made it to third on a single by Derek Gellos. Now with two on, Matt Boissoneault sent a bouncing ball up the middle that the Texans were able to turn into a double play to end the game.

"Proud of the guys getting on in the 9th to give us a chance and we had the right guy at the plate," Harrel added. "It just didn't happen, and we got to be a better at the plate tomorrow and find more ways to score runs."

With the loss the Redhawks drop to 13-25 on the season and to 9-10 in conference play. They will have a chance to even the series tomorrow, April 28, with Nestor German set to take the hill. First pitch for tomorrow is scheduled for 4pm PT.
