BELLEVUE, WASH. - Seattle U baseball dropped their series opener with British Columbia, 3-7, in extra innings on Friday. The Redhawks battled back to send the game into extra innings, but a big 10th inning from the Thunderbirds saw them victorious.
"We knew UBC would be very good and well coached," said head coach Donny Harrel. "They beat us in all three phases of the game, and we need to come back tomorrow and play much better baseball."
Trailing 1-3 heading into the bottom of the 5th, the Redhawks were able to tie the game up thanks to Jackson Reed and Kenji Suzuki. Jackson would lead the inning off with a triple before Suzuki drove him in the following at-bat with a double. After advancing to third on a ground ball, Suzuki would then score on a Thunderbird wild pitch to tie the game at three.
With no other scoring in the remaining four innings, the two sides prepared for extra innings. British Columbia would score four in the top half of the 10th on a grand slam before turning away the Redhawks in the bottom of the frame.
With the loss the Redhawks drop to 10-21 on the season. They will have a quick opportunity to bounce back when they face the Thunderbirds again tomorrow, April 18, at 1:00pm PT.
