BELLEVUE, WA. - Seattle U baseball used the long ball, taking down British Columbia, 8-2, Saturday afternoon at Bannerwood Park. The Redhawks hit three home runs as they split the series with the Thunderbirds.
Matt Boissoneault was the driving force of the Redhawk offense on the day, driving in four of the Redhawks eight runs. He hit a 2-run homerun to left field in the bottom of the 1st, before nearly hitting it in the same exact spot in the bottom of the third for another 2-run shot. Two home runs in a single-game ties a Redhawk high, also set by Boissoneault last season.
Kai Alberghini joined the home run party by hitting one in the 4th to make it a 5-0 lead for the Redhawks. After the Thunderbirds scored two in the top of the 6th, Alberghini would knock in another run in the bottom of the 7th. RBI from Cameron Dayton and Jackson Reed put the game on ice, as the Redhawks went on to get the win and split the series.
Blake Smith also had a solid day on the hill, going seven innings and striking out nine while only giving up two earned runs to earn his third win of the season. Dayton and Mason Hoover would split the final two innings, as they combined to not give up a single run or hit.
With the win the Redhawks improve to 11-21 on the season. Next up is a midweek matchup with Oregon State on Wednesday, April 18, down in Corvallis. It will be the second and final meeting of the season between the two sides, as the Redhawks dropped the matchup earlier in the season at Bannerwood.
