SEATTLE – Seattle University men's basketball Head Coach Chris Victor has announced the addition of Seattle native John Christofilis to the 2023-24 Redhawk squad.

Christofilis, a 6-3, 195-pound guard who prepped at O'Dea High School, spent the last two seasons at Creighton University. He joins Seattle U as a redshirt sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining.

"John's decision to come back home and play for Seattle University is a testament to his love for this city and his belief in our basketball program," said Victor. "John is a tough, competitive wing who has a special ability to score the basketball. We are thrilled to have a player of his caliber, experience and character join our team and we look forward to seeing him make a significant impact on and off the court."

In two seasons at Creighton, Christofilis was a member of two 20-plus win teams and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the Elite Eight this past year.

In his freshman year at Creighton in 2021-22, Christofilis played in 13 games, contributing seven points and four rebounds in 52 minutes as a reserve guard, before a foot injury sidelined him during the final two months of the season. He redshirted the 2022-23 season.

The No. 139 prospect by Rivals and No. 147 in the 247Sports composite rankings coming out of high school, Christofilis prepped at O'Dea High School where he was teammates with the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Paolo Banchero.

As a senior in 2020-21, Christofilis played for BFL Prep along with his O'Dea teammate Banchero. In a shortened season impacted by COVID, Christofilis averaged 20 mpg over seven games.

As a junior at O'Dea, he averaged 12 points, six rebounds and three assists while shooting 45 percent from three-point range and 88 percent at the line, earning Second Team All-Metro accolades. The Fighting Irish finished second in Class 3A at the 2020 State Tournament. Christofilis averaged 10.6 points per game as O'Dea won the state title his sophomore season, though he missed the end of the year due to injury. He averaged 7.3 points per game during his freshman campaign.

Christofilis was coached by Jason Kerr at O'Dea High School and by Carl Howell in AAU with Washington Supreme.

Christofilis joins fellow Seattle product Malek Gomma and San Anselmo, Calif., native Will Heimbrodt in Victor's 2023 signing class.
