Bellevue, Wash. - Seattle U baseball fell in game 2 of their series with UT Arlington, 10-17, Saturday afternoon at Bannerwood Park. The theme of the day was runs, as both teams combined to score 27 in the shootout.
"Very disappointing day for our pitchers," head coach Donny Harrel said after the loss. "We could not get the ball down and gave up way too many free passes. Need to be more competitive tomorrow to give us a chance to win a series."
Seattle U was able to rally from deficits on two separate occasions. Trailing 0-3 after the 1st, Seattle U would score the next six runs of the game, capped off by a 2-run homerun by Ryne Hays to go up 6-3. The Mavericks would respond with five unanswered of their own, before the Redhawks once again retook the lead on RBI from Kai Alberghini and Cole Kleckner in the bottom of the 5th, with the game now at 9-8.
From that point UT Arlington would go on to score nine runs over the final three innings of play, going on to even the series with a high scoring 10-17 final.
Despite the loss, Seattle U's offense had a very impressive day at the plate. They recorded 15 hits and seven different players recorded at least one RBI on the day. Grant Heiser hit his team leading 5th homerun of the season while pinch hitting in the bottom of the 9th, while Matt Boissoneault and Kai Alberghini both had three hit days.
With the loss the Redhawks drop to 6-17 on the season and to 4-7 in conference play. With the series now tied at one, Seattle U will look to take the matchup tomorrow at Bannerwood Park with first pitched slated for noon. Blake Smith will make his 5th start of the season on the mound, looking to get win number two of his freshman campaign.
