PULLMAN, Wash. - Seattle U baseball dropped their 1-game matchup with Washington State, 2-8, Tuesday in Pullman. The Redhawks held a lead after four innings of play, but the Cougars went on a 7-run streak over their final four at-bats to knock off SU.

Ryne Hays got the scoring going early, sending a shot over the left field wall for a 2-run HR in the top of the 2nd. It was the second HR of the season for the sophomore and put the Redhawks out front 2-0.

Washington State cut the SU lead in half in the bottom half of the 2nd, but the Redhawks were able to hold onto that 1-run lead for the next two innings. The Cougars would then score 4-runs in the bottom of the 5th to go out in front, then added to that lead over the next three innings to take the 1-game matchup.

Luke Alwood, in his first start of the season, went two innings while giving up one earned run and struck out three. Cameron Dayton (0-1) was the pitcher of record, coming in for three innings of relief and giving up two earned runs while also striking out three.

Conference play is next for the Redhawks as they make the trip south to Texas for a 3-game series with Sam Houston starting on Friday, March 10. It will be the first meeting all-time between the Redhawks and Bearkats as they did not face each other in last season's division format in the Western Athletic Conference.
