ABILENE, Tex. - Seattle U women's basketball concluded the 2022-23 regular season on Thursday evening, falling to Abilene Christian, 43-49. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) matchup took place at the Moody Coliseum in Abilene, Texas.

Back-and-forth action took place for the entirety of the first quarter, with Seattle U scoring six straight from the four to two minute mark to take an early lead. The Redhawks retook the lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats, 14-7, which featured a 10-0 run that began with a Jullianna Walker three-pointer. Abilene Christian was held to just 17 points in the first half, marking the lowest allowed by the Redhawks all season.

The Wildcats would come out the better team in the second half, taking the lead midway through the third and never letting up. The Redhawks did their best to fight back in the fourth, getting the score to as close as three points in the final minute.

"Our team fought through all of the ups and downs of the game," said Head Coach Suzy Barcomb. "I'm very proud of the effort our team gave and loved how hard they were willing to work."

Abilene Christian's Madi Miller led all scorers with 18 points, while Addison Martin chipped in 12.

Peyton Howard was SU's top performer on the evening, finishing with 12 points to go along with three steals.

"Peyton's work on defense was outstanding tonight," said Barcomb. "She really set the tone for our defense."

Irena Korolenko finished behind Howard, adding nine points, while Asta Blauenfeldt chipped in eight.

Seattle U will open postseason play on Monday, heading to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the WAC Tournament. The Redhawks opening round matchup will be announced by the WAC on Friday.
