Long Beach, CA - Seattle U baseball dropped their series opener on the road vs Long Beach State, 5-11, Sunday night in California. After taking the lead in the top half of the 8th, the Dirtbags came back with seven in the bottom of the frame to steal the win.
Seattle U scored the first runs of the game in the top of the 3rd when Jackson Reed doubled the center field, scoring Matt Boissoneault and Trevor Antonson. That was followed by a solo homerun by Ryne Hays, his first of the season, in the 4th as the Redhawks jumped out to the 3-0 lead.
Long Beach State got one back in the bottom of the 4th, before SU extended the lead back to three when Kelen Carr score on a fielders choice the following inning. The Dirtbags would eventually tie the game in the bottom of the 5th when Grant Heiser hit the second Redhawk solo homerun of the game to reclaim the advantage. Long Beach would again have a big inning, this time scoring seven in the bottom of the 8th to race in front and eventually win the game, 11-5.
Despite the loss, it was another solid start on the mound for Peter Chronowski. The lefty went six innings while giving up seven hits and only one earned run. He would get a no decision in his second start of the year.
The Redhawks will look to bounce back with a doubleheader vs the Dirtbags tomorrow. Game one is scheduled for an 11am PT first pitch with game two estimated to start at 3pm.
