SEATTLE - Seattle U women's basketball wrapped up its 2022-23 home schedule on Saturday, taking down Utah Valley, 66-51, on senior day. Juniors Peyton Howard and Irena Korolenko led the way for the Redhawks, combining for 40 points on the afternoon. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) matchup took place at the Redhawk Center in Seattle with lone senior Madeline Phillips being honored pregame.
"I was so happy to send Philly out on a great note," said Head Coach Suzy Barcomb. "She has given so much to our program and we really appreciate everything she has done for us."
Seattle U only trailed for the first 3:52 before mounting an eight-zero run, capped off by a deep three-pointer by Taliyah Clark. SU would then take complete control of the contest in the second quarter, scoring 16 straight points that included four combined threes from Howard and Korolenko to take an eight point lead into the break.
Korolenko would open the third with five straight points, while Julianna Walker hit three important three-pointers to squash any sort of fourth quarter comeback.
"Our crowd was amazing tonight," said Barcomb. "We wanted to end our home season with a win to reward the fans and I am happy with the overall performance."
Irena Korolenko finished the afternoon with a new career-high, scoring 24 points with six made threes which is good enough for third all-time in made threes in one game. Peyton Howard chipped in 16, going five-for-eight from the field and tying her career-high with eight rebounds.
"Peyton and Irena were phenomenal for us," said Barcomb. "They provided a great one-two punch for us with Irena shooting lights out from beyond the arc."
