Frankenberger Crushes in Back-to-Back Victories at Hawaii Invitational

HONOLULU, O'ahu, Hawaii – Seattle U softball began its third tournament of the year on Friday, taking two wins over St. Bonaventure (12-9) and Marist (3-1). Junior Sydney Frankenberger was the star of the day, going four for seven with one home run, one double and four RBIs. The nonconference contest took place at the RWSS Stadium in Honolulu, O'ahu, Hawaii.

HONOLULU, O'ahu, Hawaii – Seattle U softball began its third tournament of the year on Friday, taking two wins over St. Bonaventure (12-9) and Marist (3-1). Junior Sydney Frankenberger was the star of the day, going four for seven with one home run, one double and four RBIs. The nonconference contest took place at the RWSS Stadium in Honolulu, O'ahu, Hawaii. 

After today's victories, the Redhawks improve to 9-3 on the season.

GAME ONE

The Redhawks' bats started off quickly against the Bonnies with Jocelynn De La Cruz knocking an RBI double down the right field line in the first inning to score the game's first run. 

With the score 3-1 to SBU, Seattle U stormed back with seven runs in the bottom of the third. De La Cruz grabbed her second RBI of the day on a single to center, before Ava Sin crushed an RBI double to left center for the third run of the inning. Sydney Frankenberger logged her first home run as a Redhawk, hitting a two-run big fly to center field.  

The Redhawks added some insurance in the sixth, scoring their final four runs of the game. Frankenberger doubled down the left field line, grabbing her third and fourth RBI of the game.  

Tai Wilson had another strong showing in this game, going three for three with two runs scored.  

GAME ONE SCORING 

  • First Inning: Jocelynn De La Cruz doubled down the right field line, scoring a run.  
  • Third Inning: The Bonnies scored three in the top of the inning on one hit. The Redhawks would storm back with seven in the bottom of the inning. De La Cruz singled to center, scoring the first run. Madison Kahwaty scored on a wild pitch, followed by an Ava Sin double to left center to score another. Sydney Frankenberger hit a two-run homer to center field. Jasmine Wehn scores on a field error and Katie Walling scores on a wild pitch.  
  • Fourth Inning: St. Bonaventure scores four on two hits to make it a one run game.  
  • Sixth Inning: SU scores four in the inning, starting with Kahwaty and Wilson scoring on a fielding error by the second baseman. Frankenberger doubled to left, scoring the final two runs of frame.  
  • Seventh Inning: The Bonnies scored two in the seventh on four hits.  
GAME TWO

The Redhawks looked in control of this one from the start, taking the lead in the second inning on a bases loaded walk by Katie Walling. 

With the game tied at one in the fourth, Walling stepped up to the plate and smashed a ball to deep left center field for her first home run of the season. Olivia Viggiano added an insurance run in the sixth, hitting a single to center field that allowed Lily Garcia to score. 

Stefanie Madrigal was stellar in the circle, throwing a complete game with four strikeouts and allowing only five hits and no earned runs. After picking up the victory in both games, Madrigal improves to 6-1 on the young season. 

GAME TWO SCORING
  • Second Inning: Katie Walling walked with the bases loaded, allowing the games first run to score. 
  • Third Inning: Marist scored its only run on a double down the left field line. 
  • Fourth Inning: Katie Walling hit a solo home run to left center field.
  • Sixth Inning: Olivia Viggiano singles to center field, scoring Lily Garcia for the final run of the game. 
Seattle U will be back in action tomorrow, beginning with St. Bonaventure at noon and concluding with Hawaii at 5 p.m. pacific time.
