ON A ROLL
Seattle U enjoyed a successful trip to Fresno, California, last weekend, winning four of five and defeating a power five opponent (Iowa State) for the first time since they beat Oregon State in 2021. The Redhawks opened the weekend with a 10-2 victory over UIC, with Amanda Morris's first career home run ending the game in the sixth inning. Their first of two victories over Fresno State came via a comeback, putting up a four spot in the sixth inning to claim a 5-2 win.
Seattle U walked it off against Iowa State, recording three runs in the bottom of the seventh with Sydney Frankenberger walking it off on a two RBI double. The second matchup with Fresno State featured two strong hitting innings from the Redhawks, posting three runs in the third and five in the six to take a 8-1 win.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
After the tournament had concluded, Sydney Frankenberger, Grace Luderer and Stefanie Madrigal were all named to the All-Tournament Team.
Frankenberger was one of SU's top hitters over the three days, logging an average of .455 with five hits and two walks. The native of San Ramon, California, was the hero against Iowa State on Saturday, walking it off with a two RBI double.
Luderer went 2-0 in two starts, posting a 3.50 ERA with 11 strikeouts over 12.1 innings.
Madrigal also went 2-0 with a 0.51 ERA over two starts, striking out six and picking up the save against Fresno State on Friday night.
TOP-TIER PITCHING
Seattle U's pitching staff has been stellar to start the season, allowing only 24 runs compared to the 52 they have scored.
Stefanie Madrigal has been the ace of the rotation, holding a 4-1 overall record with a 1 .85 ERA over 30.1 innings. Madrigal has also done a good job coming into games out of the bullpen, recording two saves.
Grace Luderer has also started the year off strong, holding a 3-1 overall record in four starts with an ERA of 1.99 over 24.2 innings. Both Madrigal and Luderer have thrown two complete games and struck out 16 batters.
10-GAME HITTING STREAK
Sophomore Tai Wilson is off to a hot start this season, recording at least one hit in every game this season. The Fairfield, California, native hit extremely well at the Fresno State Kickoff Classic, hitting an average of .412 with seven total hits and three RBIs. Wilson tripled in her first at bat of the weekend against UIC and logged doubles in back-to-back games against Iowa State and Fresno State.
