FRESNO, Calif. – Seattle U softball made it four straight victories on Saturday, defeating both Iowa State (3-2) and Fresno State (8-1). Both games featured a stellar pitching performances from senior Stefanie Madrigal and sophomore Grace Luderer. Both nonconference contests took place at the Margie Wright Diamond in Fresno, California.
The Redhawks have won all four games so far at the Fresno State Kickoff, improving to 7-2 on the season after today.
GAME ONE
Seattle U found itself in a hole down 2-0 headed into the bottom of the seventh. Jocelynn De La Cruz, Ava Sin and Lily Garcia hit three consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs. An RBI single from Jasmine Wehn would make it a one score game before Sydney Frankenberger stepped up to the plate. The transfer from Cal Poly would slap a ball down the right field line, allowing two runners to score and giving the Redhawks a walk off win.
Grace Luderer had another strong performance in the circle, pitching all seven innings and striking out seven to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The victory over Iowa State marks the first win against a power five opponent since Feb. 27, 2021, when the Redhawks took down Oregon State, 2-1, in Tucson, Ariz.
GAME ONE SCORING
- Third Inning: Iowa State takes the lead on a solo home run.
- Seventh Inning: Iowa State hit a sacrifice fly, making the score 2-0. Jasmine Wehn singled to third, scoring the Redhawks first run. Sydney Frankenberger doubled down the right field line, scoring two to walk it off.
The Redhawks claimed a dominate 8-1 victory after scoring three in the third and five in the sixth. Tai Wilson got the party started with an RBI double to score the game's first run.
In the sixth, Jasmine Wehn reached on a fielder's choice, scoring two runs after the second baseman committed a throwing error. Wilson grabbed her second RBI of the game after ripping a single through the right side to put the Redhawks ahead 7-0 at this point.
Stefanie Madrigal moved to 4-1, throwing a compete game with two strikeouts.
GAME TWO SCORING
- Third Inning: Tai Wilson doubled to left field, scoring the first run of the contest. Wilson scored on a passed ball. Lily Garcia grounds out to the second baseman, allowing the third and final run of the inning to score.
- Sixth Inning: Jasmine Wehn reaches on a fielder's choice, allowing two runs to score. Sydney Frankenberger would score on a wild pitch soon after. Tai Wilson singled through the right side, scoring fourth run of the inning. Madison Kahwaty hit a sacrifice fly to right field, marking the fifth run of the inning. Fresno State would get one back in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly.
