RECORD BREAKER
Graduate student Olivia Viggiano recently broke SU's DI all-time career triples record, logging her 12th career triple in the season opener against Pacific. The 5-9, outfielder was one of Seattle U's top hitters in their first tournament, leading the team in hits (seven) and finishing tied for first in total bases (10).
TOP-TIER PITCHING
Seattle U's pitching staff was stellar in through the first five games, only allowing 10 earned runs over 32 innings. Sophomore Grace Luderer logged a 1.70 ERA in the opening weekend, allowing only one run and three hits in a win over Santa Clara.
Senior Stefanie Madrigal also opened the season on a good note, throwing a two hit shut out against Sacramento State and pitching four shut out innings in a shortened matchup with Pacific.
GETTING ON BASE
The Redhawks had a successful opening weekend at the plate, ranking fourth in the WAC in team average (.313), hits (42), runs scored (26), total bases (62), stolen bases (six) and home runs (four).
Four Redhawks posted an average and OBP above .400 (at least 10 ABs) on opening weekend. Olivia Viggiano led the way with seven hits, while Jocelynn De La Cruz, Madison Kahwaty and Tai Wilson all added six. Jocelynn De La Cruz, Lily Garcia, Madison Kahwaty and Katie Walling all hit homers on opening weekend.
TERRIFIC TRIO
Graduate student Olivia Viggiano and seniors Madison Kahwaty and Stefanie Madrigal were all picked to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) 2023 Preseason Team. This is the second consecutive year the Redhawks have had three players named to the Preseason All-WAC Team, with Madrigal and Viggiano being repeat recipients.
The Redhawks have gone six straight seasons with multiple players earning the honor and have had at least one athlete named for the last decade. Only the 2020 season did the Redhawks have more individuals earn Preseason All-WAC honors when five were selected.
