ARLINGTON, Texas – Riley Grigsby has repeated as TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, earning the honor for the game week ending on Sunday, Jan. 22. Grigsby is the first player to repeat on consecutive weeks and the third to earn the honor multiple times this season.
The 6-6 senior guard/forward continued his hot streak for a second consecutive week, averaging 23 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2 steals per game as Seattle U remained unbeaten in WAC play with a pair of victories. On Thursday against Tarleton, Grigsby tied for the team lead with 13 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting. He added nine rebounds, one block and one steal as the Redhawks held the Texans to just 47 points in a 20-point victory.
On Saturday in a showdown against then-second place Southern Utah, Grigsby went 13-for-20 from the field, including 7-of-12 from three, for a career-high 33 points. His field goal and three pointer totals were also career highs as the Redhawks shut down the nations' top offensive team in an 81-60 win. The key stretch of the night was a 25-5 run midway through the second half in which Grigsby powered the charge with 17 of those 25 points. He added four rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals to his line as the Redhawks moved to 7-0 on the WAC while also running their current win streak to eight and their overall home win streak to 10.
Seattle U takes to the road this week, traveling to Texas for a pair of key match-ups at Sam Houston on Thursday and Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.
