RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Seattle U women's basketball hit the road for one contest, falling to California Baptist, 58-72, on Thursday night. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) matchup took place at the CBU Events Center in Riverside, California.
California Baptist took control of this game early on, grabbing as large as an eight point lead in the first quarter. Seattle U would get the lead to as low as one three times in the second quarter, but were unable to get out in front.
Back-to-back threes from junior Irena Korolenko in the middle of the third quarter got the Redhawks within seven before the Lancers pushed the lead to 14 with a 7-0 run of their own. The Redhawks' mounted a 10-0 late in the fourth but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit.
California Baptist's Grace Schmidt lead all scorers with 23 points, while Trinity San Antonio added 19 of her own and Filipa Barros (10) was the final Lancer in double-digits.
Irena Korolenko finished the night as SU's top scorer, logging 12 points and adding five rebounds. Sophomore Taliyah Clark was the only other Redhawk in double-digits, finishing with 11 points and posting new career-highs in rebounds (7) and assists (4).
SU's bench had another strong performance behind Korolenko, outscoring CBU's bench 27-6. This is Korlenko's fifth double-digit performance off the bench this season.
The Redhawks will return home for one game, celebrating International Night against New Mexico State on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Redhawk Center.
