ARLINGTON, Texas – Riley Grigsby has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Jan. 15.
The San Jose, Calif., native averaged 23 points and 8.5 rebounds while leading Seattle U to a 2-0 week of WAC play. His efforts vaulted the Redhawks to the top of the league standings at 5-0 – the final unbeaten team in league play. On Thursday, Grigsby poured in a season high 27 points on 10-of-13 FGs and 5-of-7 FTs as the Redhawks fended off defending WAC Tournament champs NM State, 69-66, at Climate Pledge Arena. He added nine rebounds and an assist in the winning effort.
On Saturday in Orem, Utah, in a battle of the final two undefeated WAC teams, Grigsby scored 19 points, including a huge three with 30 seconds to play that put the Redhawks up 81-78, as Seattle U snapped Utah Valley's 11-game win streak with an 85-80 win. He also held UVU's Trey Woodbury to just 5-of-15 FGs and five turnovers, while adding three assists and eight rebounds to his stat line. Grigsby's seventh rebound of the night marked 500 for his career.
Seattle U has now reeled off six straight wins, six road wins to match last year's total and is 14-4 overall on the year. The Redhawks return home next week, hosting Tarleton State on Thursday and Southern Utah on Saturday.
