SEATTLE - Seattle U men's soccer has announced it's schedule for the upcoming 2022 season. The defending Western Athletic Conference Champions will host seven games at Championship Field.
The Redhawks will open the season with a pair of exhibition matches, starting with a matchup with Gonzaga in Spokane on Sunday, Aug. 14 before beginning the home schedule with a showdown vs. Oregon State the following Friday. The Aug. 19 matchup against the Beavers will also be a celebration of the 2021 WAC Tournament title team.
The team will hit the road to begin regular season play with the first six games coming away from Championship Field, highlighted by four matchups vs. top 25 opponents. The road swing will kick off with a trip to South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame on Aug. 25, followed by a trip to the Bluegrass State to face Kentucky on Aug. 29 and Louisville on Sep. 2.
They will make their return to the West Coast on Sep. 8 when they face San Francisco before traveling back to the Northwest for a regular season rematch vs. Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore., on Sep. 15, and an always anticipated crosstown battle with Washington on Sep. 19 in another edition of the WAC/101 Club Cup.
"I am thrilled with our non-conference schedule," said head coach Pete Fewing. "Washington was in the College Cup national title game and Oregon State was in the Elite Eight. From the ACC to the Pac-12 we are playing quality opponents."
The Redhawks will return home for the first time in the regular season starting with a showdown vs. Loyola Marymount on Sep. 25. The return home will also feature several promotional events, including a Welcome Week celebration with scarf giveaway vs. LMU and the first ever 'Hawktoberfest' vs. WAC foe Houston Baptist on Oct. 2.
After a short conference road trip, the Redhawks will return to Championship Field to celebrate the 1997 NAIA National Title team when they take on Utah Valley on Oct. 21. They will close out the home schedule vs. Grand Canyon for Senior Day on Oct. 28.
"I am always excited to play the WAC schedule," said Fewing. "I think this is a schedule that will test us, show us where we are nationally and prepare us for the NCAA Tournament."
The Redhawks will end the regular season with a pair of games at Air Force on Oct. 30 and San Jose State on Nov. 4 before heading to Riverside, Calif., for the 2022 WAC Tournament starting Nov. 8.
