CORVALLIS, Ore. – Seattle U men's basketball was held to a season low 58 points as Oregon State was able to rally from a halftime deficit and claim a 73-58 win over the Redhawks Thursday night at Gill Coliseum.
The Redhawks fell for just the second time this season, moving to 7-2 overall. OSU improved to 5-6 overall.
Seattle U used a 9-0 run midway through the first half to turn a 16-15 deficit into a 24-16 lead. Behind 10 first-half points from Riley Grigsby and fifth total first half threes, the Redhawks carried a 28-25 lead into the break.
Paris Dawson opened the second half with back-to-back threes and Brandon Chatfield added a dunk to cap an 8-0 spurt, but the Beavers answered with 11 straight points to take a 39-36 lead.
The teams traded buckets keeping within a possession of each other and five straight points by Viktor Rajković had Seattle U leading 45-43 with 12:50 to play.
But things began to unravel after that as Oregon State would outscore Seattle U 23-2 over the next nine minutes of action, opening up a 66-47 lead that put the game out of reach.
Despite finishing with nine three pointers, the Redhawks managed just 34 percent FG shooting while also going just 11-of-20 from the charity stripe.
Fifteen Redhawk turnovers turned into 22 points for the Beavers, who shot better than 56 percent from he field and 6-of-10 from three in the decisive second frame.
Grigsby paced Seattle U with 14 points, Dawson had 11 and Alex Schumacher finished with 10.
Seattle U returns home for a one-game stint, hosting Alcorn State on Sunday, Dec. 18. Tip-off from the Redhawk Center is scheduled for 3 p.m.
