SEATTLE – Seattle U women's basketball returned from a three game road trip Saturday afternoon, falling narrowly to CSUN, 90-97. Juniors Peyton Howard and Irena Korolenko both recorded new career-highs in points, finishing the matchup with 19 and 18, respectively. The nonconference matchup was played at the Redhawk Center in Seattle.
Both teams came out scoring quickly in the first quarter, with the Redhawks having as large as a five point lead after one. CSUN's Tessa Amundsen started to come alive in the second quarter of her career-best performance, scoring 11 points to give them at 13 point lead at the half.
The Matadors would continue that strong play in quarter three, pushing the lead to as big as 24 before a season-high 39 points in the fourth quarter got the Redhawks to as close as seven. Seattle U forced seven turnovers in the final quarter, but weren't able to overcome the early deficit.
Seattle U finished with new season-bests in field goal % (.426), points (90) and made threes (13). The Redhawks outscored the Matador bench, 46-24, with Korolenko and Julianna Walker both providing double-digit points. CSUN's Tess Amundsen had 28 points lead all scorers.
Korolenko led SU scorers with 19, tying a career-high three-point performance with five made threes. Howard had one of her best all-around games, logging career-highs in points (18), rebounds (eight), steals (four) and tying her career-high in assists (four). Walker and Sheridan Liggett were the other two Redhawks with double-digit points, with the former finishing with 13 that included four made threes and the latter with 10 points.
Seattle U will continue a three game home stand on Tuesday, facing off with Eastern Washington on Tuesday with tip off at 6 p.m.
