QUICK HITS
- Wednesday's game against Cal State Fullerton is the first of four Redhawk home games to be contested at Climate Pledge Arena. Seattle U will also call the world class venue home on Jan. 12 against NM State, Feb. 1 against Abilene Christian and Feb. 8 against Utah Tech.
- The Redhawks played nine games #UnderOurRoof at Climate Pledge in 2021-22, including the inaugural basketball game to be contested in the arena.
- Seattle U holds an 8-1 record at Climate Pledge Arena.
- The Redhawks enter the game versus the Titans with a 5-1 record, after falling for the first time this season, 77-66, at Washington on Monday. The loss also halted a three-game road win streak.
- The 5-1 record marks the best start to a season since 2007-08 (the final year Seattle U competed as a DII member), when they went 6-0 before dropping a game.
- At UW, four Redhawks scored in double figures, paced by Cameron Tyson's 18 points. Alex Schumacher had 15 points, while Viktor Rajković and Riley Grigsby added 10 apiece.
- Despite shooting just 25% from three, the Redhawks marked their sixth consecutive game with double-digit threes, finishing with 10 on the night.
ABOUT THE SERIES VS CAL STATE FULLERTON
The Redhawks and Titans have just five previous all-time meetings, including four in Seattle U's modern Division I era. The teams hold an even 2-2 split in those four meetings, each winning once at home and one on the opposing court. The most recent meeting came on Dec. 4, 2015 at Key Arena where Cal State Fullerton broke a 20-20 halftime tie and exploded for 50 second-half points on its way to a 70-61 win.
NATION RANKS
In games played through Nov. 28, Seattle U ranks among the nation's top 50 in nine team categories:
- 5th in 3-pters per game (11.5)
- 8th in 2-pt attempts per game (30.2)
- 16th in rebound margin (10.0)
- 18th in scoring (84.8)
- 26th in scoring margin (19.0)
- 38th in rebounds per game (40.67)
- 40th in bench points per game (31.17)
- 47th in 3-pt% (38.1)
- 47th in 3-pt% defense (27.5)
In games played through Nov. 28, Seattle U ranks among the nation's top 50 in three individual categories:
- 15th in total 3-pters - Cameron Tyson, 23
- 45th in double-doubles - Seyi Reiley, 2
Cameron Tyson's averages of 25.8 ppg and 5.75 threes per game unofficially lead the nation, but Tyson does not currently meet the NCAA's minimum of playing in "75% of the team's games."
CLOSING IN ON 1,000
Alex Schumacher enters Wednesday's game versus Cal State Fullerton with 955 career points. The junior guard scored 886 points during three seasons (including a shortened 2019-20 season due to COVID), and has added 73 points through six games played as a Redhawk.
GRIGSBY EYES LONGEVITY RECORDS
A rare fifth-year senior thanks to the extra year of eligibility allowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Riley Grigsby will look to become Seattle U's all-time leader in games played in this season. Through two game played this season, Grigsby has appeared in 108 games, 16 shy of the all-time record held by William Powell (2014-17). Grigsby also sits in third with 2,866 minutes played, trailing No. 2 Powell (3,178 minutes) and all-time leader Morgan Means (2017-20, 3,737 minutes), who has returned to the program as a graduate assistant this year.
REDHAWK RUNDOWN
- Cameron Tyson was named WAC Player of the Week for his performances during the opening week of play, which included averaging 33.5 points, 7.5 threes and 5.5 rebounds per game. He shot better than 56% from the field, including 8-for-13 (55.6%) from three.
- Seattle U won its sixth straight home opener with a 106-55 final over University of Puget Sound on Nov. 9 at the Redhawk Center.
- Seattle U won its fourth consecutive season opener, downing the Tritons of UC San Diego, 85-71, on Nov. 7.
SAN FRANCISCO ON MY MIND
Over the past three seasons, Seattle U has found a hotbed of talent who began their collegiate careers at City College of San Francisco. A total of five players have gone from the Rams' program to the Redhawks. In 2022-23, junior Seyi Reiley joins senior Emeka Udenyi on the Seattle U squad. Reiley, a Negri, Jamaica native, led the Rams to a CCCAA State Championship in 2021-22, while being named Coast Conference Player of the Year, Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and All-State. During his two years at CCSF, Reiley compiled a 60-1 record. Previous Rams-to-Redhawks included Darrion Trammell, Nate Robinson and Kyree Brown.
