DENVER, Colo. - Erin Goya, Lauren McCabe and Ezgi Ozkan of Seattle University volleyball have been named on the 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Erin Goya is a sophomore from Honolulu, Hawaii, majoring in Nursing. The defensive specialist/libero recorded the seventh best performance in school history and second best four set performance in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) with 30 digs against Utah Tech. Goya finished the season with a career-best and team lading 224 digs.
Lauren McCabe is a senior from Wilsonville, Oregon, also majoring in Nursing. The middle blocker ranked third in the WAC in average blocks per set (1.1) and lead the team in solo blocks (19), block assists (67) and total blocks (86). McCabe has been a phenomenal student athlete in her time at SU, earning Academic All-WAC awards three times.
Another three time All-WAC Academic member, Ezgi Ozkan is a senior hailing from Istanbul, Turkey. Majoring in Business Economics, the setter finished third in the WAC with 8.71 assists per set and lead the team in overall assists with 653. Ozkan became just the fourth Redhawk in DI history to record 2k or more career assists during this season
The 2022 Academic All-District Women's Volleyball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
All First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America ballot and will be annouced in late December. Seattle U was one of five Western Athletic Conference (WAC) schools to have a student-athlete named to the list.
