SEATTLE – Seattle University extended its string of academic excellence in institutional Graduation Success Rate (GSR), according to data released by the NCAA this week. As a department, the Redhawks compiled a 92 percent GSR, while seven teams tallied perfect scores in the metric.

SU has tallied at least a 92 percent in every report since 2008.

GSR data indicates the number of student athletes earning a degree within six years. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student athletes. The Graduation Success Rate includes transfer students and student athletes who leave in good academic standing, unlike the federal rate, which does not count transfers. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport.

The most recent Graduation Success Rates are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I from 2012 through 2015.

Men's basketball, women's basketball, women's cross country/track & field, women's rowing, women's golf, softball and women's swimming each claimed perfect 100 percent scores for the cohort. Men's and women's basketball's marks trend well over the national averages of 50 percent and 56 percent, respectively.

Nine Redhawk programs were over 90 percent while 15 reached the 80 percent threshold.

Women's golf has perfect scores in eight consecutive reports, while women's cross country/track and field have a seven-year streak at 100 percent. Women's basketball, rowing and women's swimming are on a three-year streak at 100 percent, while men's basketball repeats at the mark from last year.
