EUGENE, Ore. – Seattle U women's basketball concluded its opening weekend of the 2022-23 season on Saturday, falling to Oregon by a score line of 47-90. The road matchup took place at the Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Oregon.

"Our goal for this weekend was to grow as a team," said Head Coach Suzy Barcomb. "We needed to gain game experience performing at a high level in intense environments."

The 20th ranked Ducks came out of the gates quickly, beginning the game on an eight to two run. A Taliyah Clark jumper midway through the second quarter brought the matchup to as close as five points but Oregon never relinquished the lead. The Ducks went to work on the offense glass, finishing with 18 second chance points and 19 offense rebounds.

Junior Irena Korolenko led Seattle U in scoring with 14 on 6-10 from the field, finishing one point shy of her career-high. Sophomore Taliyah Clark chipped in nine, while junior Peyton Howard added eight points to go along with three rebounds. Freshman Sheridan Liggett brought great defensive energy, logging five rebounds and a block in 21 minutes.

The Redhawks will take on Portland State at 6 p.m. on November 17 to open its 2022-23 home schedule.
