CORVALLIS, Ore. – Seattle U women's basketball began the 2022-23 season away from home, falling to Oregon State, 53-89, on Thursday night. The regular season opener took place at Gil Coliseum in Corvallis, Oregon.
"This was a learning experience for us," said Head Coach Suzy Barcomb. "We played a very competitive first half, but were unable to match the size and physicality of Oregon State on the inside."
The Redhawks and Beavers went back and forth in the first quarter, with a Taliyah Clark floater in the lane tying the game at 21. Julianna Walker and Sheridan Liggett would hit three consecutive three-pointers to open the second quarter, giving SU a slight advantage at 30-28 before Oregon State would eventually claim the lead for good. OSU's Raegan Beers would go on to score 17 points in the second half, giving the Beavers the victory.
Sheridan Liggett led all Seattle U scorers with 10, shooting three of eight from the field and two of three from distance. Walker chipped in nine on three made three-pointers, while Taliyah Clark managed eight. Irena Korolenko logged five boards, while Lisa Michaelsen and Peyton Howard both had four rebounds.
Seattle U will face off with another Pac-12 opponent in Oregon at the Matthew Knight Arena on Saturday at 11 a.m.
