SEATTLE - In their first home match of the conference season, Seattle U women's soccer shutout Utah Valley, 3-0, Saturday night.

"Everyone played well and everybody made a difference," said head coach Julie Woodward. "We won a very competitive and tight game as a team."

For the second straight match, U'I Kaaihue was the one credited with the game winning goal. She put away her third goal of the season at the 22' mark in the first half to put the Redhawks out in front.

The Wolverines had an opportunity to equalize in the first half when they were awarded a penalty in the 38th minute. Utah Valley would step to the spot and send a shot to the left side of the goal, but it did not reach the net as an outstretched Jessica Berlin was able to get a glove on it and deflect it off the frame to keep the lead with SU.

"Berlin made an amazing save," Woodward added. "That could've really changed the momentum of the game."

Just minutes after the save from Berlin, Taylor Marks would double the Redhawk lead with a tapper as Seattle U went into the halftime break with a commanding 2-0 advantage. A third and final goal on an empty netter from Kaylee Coatney in the 89th minute sealed the victory, as the Redhawks picked up the 3-0 win over Utah Valley.

The win snapped a 5-game winless streak vs the Wolverines and improved their conference record to 3-1-1 and overall record to 6-5-2. The shutout was also the 7th of the season and 3rd in conference play as the team continues to show their defensive prowess.

Seattle U will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 13, when they host Stephen F. Austin at Championship Field. This will be the first meeting all-time between the Redhawks and Lumberjacks, with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm PT.
