COLORADO SPRINGS - Men's soccer went on the road and knocked off WAC leading Air Force, 4-3, Sunday afternoon in Colorado. Peter Kingston scored a brace, including the game winner, to help lift the Redhawks to a big conference win.
"That was as good of a win as we've had all season," said head coach Pete Fewing. "To go down by two and then eventually tie it up and win it, I haven't seen that for a long time."
Air Force had a strong start to the match, scoring the opening two goals of the match in the 10th and 25th minutes. The Redhawks would respond by mounting a three-goal comeback. They were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute, Kingston would step to the spot and convert to pick up his first goal of the match. That was followed by first career goals from Christian Koontz (39') and Nathan Lobo (42'), as the Redhawks went into the breakup one.
The Falcons would snap the goal streak by the Redhawks to open the second half, leveling the match in the 47th minute on their own penalty conversion. With the game winding down, Seattle U would get another one from Kingston. Lobo sent a through ball to Kingston in the 85th, Peter would then pass it to Habib Barry right in front of the goal, but it was deflected by a Falcon defender back to the feet of Kingston who snuck it under the cross bar for the game winner.
"They're a very good team and I love playing against them," Fewing added of playing Air Force. "The respect we have for them is significant, just so thrilled for our guys."
Not only does the win improve the Redhawks to 6-8-1 on the season, but it also locked up a berth in the WAC tournament. Seattle U's 5-3 conference record has them sitting in second place in the standings, now one point ahead of their next opponent in San Jose State.
That showdown with the Spartans is set for Friday, Nov. 4, in San Jose. The Redhawks will try to lockup a first-round bye in the WAC tournament with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm PT.
