PHOENIX, Ariz. - Seattle U men's and women's swimming will travel down to Phoenix to compete against Grand Canyon. In addition to GCU, the women's team will also go against Loyola Marymount and San Diego State, while the men's team will only compete against Grand Canyon. The meet will take place at the Fr Edward A. Reese Aquatic Center, with the first event starting at 4:00 PM PST on October 21, and then continuing at 10:00 AM PST on October 22.
The Redhawks continue their season after a strong start in their dual meet against Simon Fraser. The women convincingly defeated the Red Leafs, 206-185, on the team score. Maggie Robben scored big points for the team by winning the 200 Freestyle and the 200 IM. Teammates Danika Himes and Tessa Oliver would come in right behind Robben in the 200 IM, scoring 16 points together in one event. Lydia Genson also won multiple events, as she would come away with first place finishes in the 100 Free and 200 Free.
The men's team had multiple athletes start their 2022-23 campaigns strong at the Simon Fraser dual meet. The men took first place in the 200 Medley Relay with the team of William Corona, Brendan Ryan, Emmett Moore, and Nicholas Imig. In addition to the 200 Medley Relay, the men also won the 400 Medley Relay with the team of Corona, Ryan, Eric Thomure, and Imig in a time of 3:30.51. The last relay the men won would be the 200 Freestyle Relay, with the team of Connor Barringer, Cole Lanting, Matthew Chan, and Michael Luna clocking in a time of 1:25.38.
Nicholas Imig won multiple individual events as well, as he would take first in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, with teammate Cole Lanting finishing right behind Imig in the 100 Free. Brendan Ryan performed well in his very first collegiate meet, as he would win the 200 Free. Ryan's win in the 200 Free, as well the 200 Freestyle Relay win would be critical in the team score, as the Redhawks defeated the Red Leafs, 199-192.
