Kraleva Shines in Day One of ITA Regionals

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Seattle U women's tennis completed Day One of play at ITA Regionals, hosted by Stanford. Elena Kraleva was the star for the Redhawks, as she had impressive wins in singles and doubles to start off her tournament run.

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Seattle U women's tennis completed its first day of play at the ITA Regionals, hosted by Stanford. Elena Kraleva was the star for the Redhawks, advancing to the round of 32 in both doubles and singles play.  

In singles, Kraleva started her run in the Round of 132, where she defeated MiaAngela Ruja from the University of the Pacific in two identical sets of 6-4, 6-4 Kraleva would then move onto the Round of 64, where she would face Oregon's Yu-Jee Chan. Kraleva would claim victory in dominant fashion, as she would defeat Chan 6-3, 6-1. Kraleva will face Alexis Blokhina from Stanford in the Round of 32.  
 
Marija Elenova (5-7, 2-6) dropped her match to Portland State's Nell Arent, while Mireira Fehr (5-7, 2-6) battled against San Francisco's Rita Colyer.Sophomore Jade Quintana faced off against Katja Wiersholm from Berkeley, but was unable to advance to the next round, dropping the match 3-6, 1-6.  

Liliya Dimova was matched up against Peyton Dunkle from Cal Poly, but was defeated 1-6, 2-6. Finally, freshman Lola Tavcar would play against Arianna Stavropoulos from UC Davis, but would fall in identical sets of 2-6, 2-6. 
 
In doubles play, Kraleva and Dimova would team up against Eastern's pairing of Andersen and Mann and win convincingly, defeating their opponents 8-2. Kraleva and Dimova will face Sacramento State's Yotovaand Gorbunova in the Round of 32. 

Quintana and Elenova (7-8) came close to defeating Fresno State's Vyshkina and Marzano, and Fehr and  Tavcar (4-8) teamed up to face Saint Mary's Hovda and Harris, but would also drop their match. 
 
The Redhawks will continue play at the ITA Regionals on Saturday, October 15.
