SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle U men's and women's swimming kicks off their 2022-23 season at home in a dual meet against Simon Fraser. The meet will begin on October 15 at 4 PM PST at the Redhawk Center, and will continue Sunday, October 16 at 9 AM PST.

This will be the first swim meet for Head Coach Joe Dykstra and Assistant Coach Becky Woodruff. Additionally, Jack Neton will be serving as an assistant coach for the first time after competing for the Redhawks from 2017-2022.

The Redhawks will have six freshmen compete collegiately for the first time, with an even split of three men and three women. On the men's side, Matthew Chan, Theodore Johansen and Brendan Ryan will make their debut, and on the women's side Ailidh Carroll, Sarah Cook and Nohea Kamauu will compete for Seattle U for the first time.

The men's team will start the season after having multiple returners qualify for the National Invitational Championships last year. Senior William Corona is returning after qualifying for the 100 Back, 200 Back, and 200 IM. Sophomores Andres Banuelos and Cole Lanting also qualified individually for NIC, with Banuelos competing in the 100 IM, 500 Free, and 1650 Free, and Lanting competing in 200 IM, 100 Free, and 200 Free.

The women's team will also build off of the success from last year, where multiple athletes put up some of the fastest times in school history. Michaela Day will kick off her senior campaign after setting historic marks. In the 2021-22 season, she swam the second fastest 1650 Free in school history in a time of 17:19.91. Additionally, she swam 4:31.58 in the 400 IM, which is good for fifth in school history.

Junior Cassie Koester also placed herself in the top five for the 1650 Free, finishing in 17:22.55, which is the fifth best time in SU history. She also is third all-time in the 500 Free with a time of 5:03.23.
