SEATTLE – A key position on the Seattle University Athletics senior leadership team has been filled as Director of Athletics Shaney Fink announced the hiring of Maria Uriarte as Associate Athletic Director of Facilities and Operations and Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).
"We are thrilled to welcome Maria to the Redhawk family," Fink said. "Maria is a strong leader who has tremendous breadth of experience and passion for supporting student athletes. She will be an immediate asset to the athletics department and the entire Seattle University community."
Uriarte comes to Seattle U following nearly 15 years in a variety of capacities at University of California, Berkeley. Most recently, Uriarte served as Assistant Athletic Director of Sport Operations, a position she held since March 2018. Her duties included oversight of all operational needs for 26 of Cal's athletic programs, including partnership in events, fundraising and facilities management and co-management of conference and NCAA championship level events.
She also developed and managed operating budgets for multiple athletic teams, held position on Cal Athletics' Event, Logistic, Management & Operations Team, and served as co-lead for Cal Athletics' Latinx Empowerment Advocacy & Progression group (LEAP).

Her tenure at Cal began in 2008 as an Operations Assistant. She took on duties as Scheduling Coordinator during that time, before begin elevated to Assistant Director of Sport Operations in 2012. Uriarte assumed Director of Sport Operations duties in 2015 before her final elevation to Assistant AD.
Uriarte is a 2008 graduate of UCLA where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology.
