PORTLAND - Seattle U women's soccer was unable to find the back of the net, falling to the Pilots, 0-1, Thursday night in Portland.
The Pilots were able to take the lead early in the match, netting a goal in the 15th minute. From there on out, the Redhawks kept the Portland attack in check. Jessica Berlin made two saves in the match as the Redhawk defense returned to form.
"Our team played hard, smart and focused," said head coach Julie Woodward. "After dealing with some adversity this past week, I was so extremely proud of the way we responded."
Offensively, the Redhawks took 10 shots in the match but were only able to test the Pilot keeper with one shot on goal. The shutout was the second of the season, but the first resulting in a loss.
"Although we did not get the result, this was hands-down the best soccer we have played all year," Woodward added. "It was an incredible team performance with really great efforts from Coatney, Penner and Connelly."
The Redhawks will return home for one last match before conference play as they host Evergreen State on Saturday, Sep. 10. Kickoff from Championship Field is scheduled for 6:00 pm PT with the match being streamed live on ESPN+.
