SEATTLE - Seattle U men's soccer dropped their home opener to Loyola Marymount, 1-2, Sunday afternoon at Championship Field. The loss closes out the non-conference schedule for the Redhawks.
LMU were the fist to strike on the day, scoring the opening goal at the 15 minute mark in the first half and quickly added another just five minutes later. The Redhawks were unable to find an answer offensively, going into the halftime break down two goals.
After being held scoreless in the first half, the Redhawks would finally break through in the second. In the 52nd minute, Mo Mohamed was able to connect with Declan McGlynn for SU's first goal and helped cut the Lion lead in half.
With the goal, McGlynn moved one step closer to the all-time goals scored record in the modern Division I era for the program. His 27 goals are only second to Noe Meza, who sits at 28.
Despite the momentum building goal, the Redhawks were unable to find the equalizer. Not helping was three red cards issued to Seattle U in the second half, dropping them to 8-men on the field. LMU would hold on and pickup the win, 2-1, over the Redhawks.
With the loss, the Redhawks end their non-conference schedule with a 1-5-1 record. They will return to action when they host the WAC opener vs UTRGV on Friday, Sep. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm PT at Championship Field.
