LAS CRUCES - Seattle U women's soccer battled through a lightning postponement yesterday to pickup the 1-1 draw with New Mexico State on Monday morning. The match, which started yesterday at noon, was postponed to today due to a consistent lightning strike in the Las Cruces area.
The match was stopped just two minutes into the second half yesterday, with a 0-0 scoreline.
Once play resumed today, the Aggies were the first to breakthrough with a goal at the 55th minute mark. It was the first goal conceded by the Redhawks in just over 310 minutes of game action.
Seattle U would find the equalizer in a bazaar situation. A drop ball was awarded to the Redhawks just outside of the Aggies box. Kaylee Coatney stepped over the ball and sent it towards goal and after a couple of deflections she was able to get back on top of the ball and send it to the back of the net. It was Coatney's 2nd goal of the season and the last goal scored of the match as the Redhawks and Aggies drew, 1-1.
"It's really great to come away with four points on the road," said head coach Julie Woodward. "I was proud of the way the team handled not just the circumstances of the game being postponed, but their ability to come back in a challenging situation."
