HUNTSVILLE - Seattle U women's soccer picked up a dominant win in their conference opener, taking down Sam Houston, 3-0, on the road Friday night.

The Redhawks wasted no time in taking the lead, netting a goal in the first 10 minute of action thanks to a goal from Hallie Bergford. The goal was set up by a perfect dish from Kaylee Coatney

Seattle U would double their lead 20 minutes later, this time off of a goal from Mo Nagel, her first of the season. The goal was assisted by U'i Kaaihue, who also picked up her first in the assist category this year. The Redhawks would take their 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Much like the first half, the Redhawks quickly went on the offensive in the second. In the 47th minute, a ball was deflected off of a Bearkat player and was directed into the net for an own goal, giving the Redhawks a 3-0 advantage. The goal was initially credited to Berford, but was later changed to an own goal. Regardless, the Redhawks were able to hold on and secure a win in their conference opener.

Not to be overlooked was the defensive effort. Goalkeeper Jessica Berlin was only called to action a handful of times, making four saves in the shutout effort. This is already the fifth recorded shutout of the season for the Redhawks, already surpassing the total from last season.

"I am incredibly happy with the way the team started the game," said head coach Julie Woodward. "It was great to get a win on the road along with the shutout."
