SEATTLE – Seattle University women's basketball has announced its schedule for the 2022-23 season. The Redhawks' schedule features 15 games in the Redhawk Center and road games against Pac-12 giants Oregon, Oregon State and Washington.
"We have set ourselves up with a highly competitive non-conference schedule," said Head Coach Suzy Barcomb. "We are coming right out of the gates with the two Pac-12 Oregon schools, providing an outstanding test for us to determine how much we learned during our foreign tour and about our overall growth. We are fortunate to start several new home-and-home contracts, giving us an opportunity to take on different types of opponents. Our challenging non-conference schedule should provide us with plenty of growth opportunities and prepare us for the rigors of the WAC."
SU tips off the season in the Redhawk Center, with an exhibition against Saint Martin's on Nov. 5. Tough road games open the regular season, as the Redhawks head to Oregon State (Nov. 10) and Oregon (Nov. 12), before returning home for games against Portland State (Nov. 17) and UC Irvine (Nov. 19). They will then head to San Diego State on Nov. 25, followed by a short drive across the city to take on Washington on Nov. 30. A three-game road trip comes to an end at Weber State on Dec. 3.
A three-game homestand takes up most of December, with the Redhawks hosting CSUN (Dec. 10), Eastern Washington (Dec. 13) and Cal Poly (Dec. 19). The non-conference schedule comes to a conclusion with a matchup at UC San Diego on Dec. 21.
Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play begins after Christmas, with a Texas trip against Sam Houston on Dec. 29 and UTRGV on New Year's Eve. Three games at the Redhawk Center open January with California Baptist (Jan. 5), Southern Utah (Jan. 7) and 2021-22 WAC regular season and tournament winner, Stephen F. Austin, (Jan 14) all making the trip to Seattle.
A flight to California for a rematch with California Baptist (Jan. 19) follows, before returning to Seattle to take on New Mexico State (Jan. 21). January games finish with a flight to Utah for games against Utah Valley (Jan. 26) and newly branded Utah Tech (Jan. 28), while February begins with three games at home against Sam Houston (Feb. 2), Tarleton State (Feb. 9) and WAC newcomer, UT Arlington (Feb. 11).
Five days later, the Redhawks travel to Las Cruces, N.M., to battle against NM State and finish that weekend with their sole game against Grand Canyon on Feb. 18. Utah Tech (Feb. 23) and Utah Valley (Feb. 25) are the final two games in the Redhawk Center, with a trip to Texas for games against Tarleton State (Feb. 28) and Abilene Christian (Mar. 2) concluding the WAC regular season.
The 2023 WAC Tournament will start at the Michelob ULTRA Arena, with the majority of games taking place at the The Orleans in Las Vegas from Mar. 6-11.
Coach Suzy Barcomb enters her seventh season at Seattle U. The Redhawks roster looks much different going into the 2022-23 season with eight new faces to go along with eight returners.
