SOUTH BEND - Seattle U men's soccer took down No. 4 Notre Dame, 3-1, in their 2022 season opener on Thursday. Declan McGlynn had a pair of goals and Habib Barry added another, as the Redhawks took down highest ranked opponent in Division I era.

After a scoreless opening 45', it would take just five minutes into the second half for the Redhawks to score the opening goal of the match. After a penalty kick was awarded to the Redhawks off of a handball by Notre Dame in the 50th minute, Declan McGlynn would step to the spot and convert the opportunity, sending the ball past the Fighting Irish keeper and giving SU the 1-0 advantage.

McGlynn was not done on the night, 15 minutes after scoring the opener, he would double his tally and put the Redhawks up by two. A goal that would eventually be the game winner.

Seattle U would once again add to their advantage when Habib Barry was able to put away a goal off of a pass from Peter Kingston in the 78', opening their tabs for the new season.

Despite the tremendous effort on the defensive half of the field, the Redhawks were denied the clean sheet when Notre Dame broke through in the 81st minute. However, that would be the lone goal allowed by SU as they would go on to secure the win, 3-1, over the Fighting Irish.

"This was a historic win for the program," said head coach Pete Fewing. "Notre Dame is a class act and had their chances in this match."
