SEATTLE – The 2022-23 Seattle U men's basketball roster is now complete following the signing of transfer Dominiq Penn, Head Coach Chris Victor announced Tuesday.
The 6-2 guard, originally from Columbus, Ohio, spent the past year-and-a-half at University of Washington and joins the Redhawks with three years of eligibility remaining.
"Dom is an exciting addition to our program," said Victor. "He is an extremely skilled guard who will make an immediate impact on the court. This, combined with his high character, makes him a great fit for our program and university."
Battling injury for much of his time as a Husky, Penn enrolled at UW in January 2021 and redshirted the remainder of the 2020-21 season, then saw limited action in 2021-22.
Coming out of high school, Penn was ranked as a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com (class of 2021) and according to 247Sports, was ranked No. 254 nationally and the No. 38 point guard.
Penn played for Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (Chattanooga, Tenn.) in 2019-20. He saw action in all 31 games, averaging 11.2 points, 4.5 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game as the squad went 28-3 and earned a No. 1 state ranking and No. 58 national rank.
Penn competed for Dublin Coffman High School for his first three prep seasons where he was a three-time First Team All-Metro selection, conference MVP as a freshman and sophomore, First Team All-Ohio in 2017 and Third Team All-Ohio in 2018 and 2019. He led Dublin Coffman to three straight playoff appearances, including the 2018 district championship where he dropped 30 points.
Penn is the son of Scoonie Penn, who played collegiately at Boston College and The Ohio State, was a second round draft pick in the 2000 NBA Draft and currently is an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies.
