SEATTLE - Seattle U men's soccer wrapped up their 2022 preseason schedule with a 3-0 win over Oregon State on Friday, Aug. 19. The win put the Redhawks at 2-0 in the preseason after taking down Gonzaga 2-1, on the previous Sunday.
The Redhawks jumped all over the Beavers from the kickoff, when in the first minutes, Habib Barry put one past the Oregon State keeper in the first minute to take the instant lead. Despite several more high quality looks, the Redhawks would head to the halftime break with the 1-0 advantage.
Seattle U would pull away once the second half began. Josh Thacker cleaned up a Declan McGlynn attempt to make it 2-0 in the 67', followed by the second goal for Barry just ten minutes later. The Redhawk defense would finish the match off, not allowing a single goal from the Beavers.
"Great to get two from Barry and Josh Thacker's first at Seattle U on a restart," said head coach Pete Fewing. "Two very good assists from Declan and Lars Thorne-Thompson as well."
The Redhawks and Beavers will have a rematch in the regular season, with Oregon State playing host on THursday, Sep. 15. The Beavers, who start the season as the 5th ranked team in the country, and the Redhawks haave evenly split their previous four meetings in regular season play.
"That was another very good test in the preseason, playing a top 10 team that went to the Elite 8 last year," Fewing added. "OSU is organized and disciplined, tough and talented."
Seattle U now sets their eyes on opening the regular season with a six game roadtrip, kicked off with a battle against #4 Notre Dame on Thursday, Aug. 25, in South Bend, Ind. In all, the Redhawks will play four of the top 25 teams in the nation on their opening road trip.
The Redhawks will make their return to Championship Field on Sunday, Sep. 25, when they host Loyola Marymount at 1 pm. The following home match will be the start of conference play when Houston Baptist comes to town.
